It’s like a nickname

Shimmer came back from camp, looking happy and trim, and we had our first walk today. We were both eager to see our neighborhood friends again.

First, we run into Ice Plant Mary methodically pulling the weeds out of the sidewalk cracks, and down the street we say hello to The Russians. Next, there’s Crazy Mike and his dog, Bernard. (Maybe they won’t see us!) On the way to the park, we run into Jez, the Catless Cat Lady; she stops to chat about squirrels. In the park, we see the Usual Exercisers making their laps around the park: Sexy Sexagenarian who was a male model in the ’70’s,   One-Armed Yoga Guy and his absolutely amazing sense of balance, and, Shimmer’s Girlfriend, the older lady with a walker who always stops to tell Shimmer what a wonderful dog he is.

These are the folks we see regularly on our walks and we greet each of them every day. I suppose I should know their real names after all these years, but then again, they know me as “The Guy That Walks Shimmer.”
