This is Dukey. His original name was Duke, but when his owner realized he wasn’t going to get much bigger, she changed his name. Shimmer is usually reserved around small dogs, or, sometimes, his tail starts wagging, his ears perk up, and he gets a look that says, “You are so cute I could just eat you up.” That’s when I start getting nervous.
Dukey was different, though. Shimmer didn’t seem to mind him and Dukey seemed eager to meet Shimmer. They went through the usual dog greetings and then ignored one another.
His owner: “We found Dukey running around the sub-division. He was with another dog in a backyard and managed to dig under the rocks and run away. The other dog didn’t leave because he was too fat. When we brought Dukey to the owner, he said he was going to give him to the pound anyway, so we just kept him. He doesn’t run away anymore because he’s happy with us. Aren’t you, Dukey?”
Dukey wagged his tail and sniffed Shimmer’s nether region one more time. We wished them a good walk and went on our way.
